Save This Old House ~ Historic Colonial Revival in Syracuse NY Reduced to $5,000
109 McAllister Ave, Syracuse, NY 13205 $9,900 Reduced to $5,000
OHU50K NOTES
Save This Old House. OHU50K first featured this home in January 2020. It was taken off market and has just been re-listed at $5,000, still needing a savior.
Family History
I love doing historical research on these old houses whenever possible. I found that the realtor’s build date of 1920 is incorrect, because the home was inhabited as early as 1903. It was owned by William H. Kelley (1867-1943) who lived there with his wife Nellie Dwyer and children Robert and Helen.
William was the son of Irish immigrants, his father John a retired farmer. William and his brothers founded Kelley Brothers Coal Company which continues today as Kelley Bros Hardware. It is a major operation with stellar headquarters (see below).
The neighborhood in which the house is located is still viable, even though the surrounding neighborhoods are high crime. Wouldn’t it be wonderful, though, if Kelley Bros. would lay out the $100K to restore this family home?

What a hauntingly beautiful house. The view through the window shows what looks like a street of old homes in similar condition. If someone has the business and restoration acumen, they could rebuild several of these houses in time. Either to sell or keep in what would amount to a rental complex. In any case, it sure is breathtaking, and I hope someone restores it.
