OHU50K NOTES

This fixer upper has a plaque listing it as a historical site by the Normangee Historical Society, but unfortunately, I was unable to find the historical significance of the property.
The realtor’s build date of 1958 is, of course, in error. It will take plenty of cash and sweat equity to get this place back in shape, but with the prices in Texas rising dramatically, perhaps a savvy buyer will see the potential.

Normangee History

Normangee was established as a station on the Houston and Texas Central Railroad in 1905 and an additional  railroad line in 1907. Both railroads attracted many settlers from Rogers Prairie, a community just two miles to the east.

According to local sources, several buildings, including a church, were relocated to Normangee from Rogers Prairie on log rollers, and the Rogers Prairie post office was moved to the new community in 1907

Normangee, named for Norman G. Kittrell, a prominent local judge and legislator,  had a population of 1,100, two cotton gins, two banks, a machine shop, hotels, public schools, telephone service, Methodist and Baptist churches, and the weekly Star newspaper by 1914.

By 1930 Normangee had grown to 869 inhabitants and forty-five businesses, but in 1933 the Houston and Texas Central line was discontinued and later the Normangee station was razed. The town’s population fell to 535 in 1940. Since then the community’s population has fluctuated between 650 and 750. You may recognize the Normangee name for Normangee Tractors.
