Save this old house – ahh, a c.1909 home in need of full restoration in Crisfield, Maryland. Our family loves the Delmarva Peninsula, and this is one of the towns we visited several times over the years. It has some wonderful old houses in the Crisfield Historic District in which 211 S. Somerset is located. In fact, Somerset Avenue has some of the largest and most elaborate homes, reflecting the influence of Queen Anne, Colonial Revival, foursquare and bungalow styles.

Crisfield is a delightful fishing village along the Tangier Sound, an arm of the Chesapeake Bay. Famous for Maryland crabs, the town has seafood restaurants, seafood packing houses, seafood distribution centers and the only Family Dollar Store that I’ve ever seen with a great water view.

Unfortunately, Crisfield has seen quite a bit of flooding of late. This home appears to be in flood zone AE6. According to Trulia, “The Base Flood Elevation is 6 feet in an AE6 zone. This means that FEMA has estimated that in a “base” flood, the water would rise 6 feet above normal sea level. It does not mean your home was built at this elevation. You’ll need to get a flood certificate showing the elevation your home was built. Remember the BFE is an average flood level, the flood could very well be higher than 6 feet in an AE zone.”
