214 W Pierce St, Winters, TX, 79567 $49,500
OHU50K does not usually find homes in Texas this appealing under our price constraints, but here is a handyman special with some original elements intact about 40 minutes from Abilene. The exterior certainly has curb appeal, and the interior boasts hardwood floors, French doors, original doors and trim, built-ins, vintage kitchen cupboards and lovely fireplace mantel.
The families of C.N. Curry and C.E. Bell settled southwest of the present town of Winters in 1880. A local cowboy suggested that the new town be named in honor of John N. Winters, a rancher and land agent. After the post office was established in 1891, Mr. Winters donated land for a school. The town had about 163 residents in 1892, and became famous for a traveling brass band. In 1909, the Abilene and Southern Railway built an extension from Abilene to Winters, and land values in Winters soared to $7.00 per acre. Today, the the town is a commercial and distribution center for a large agricultural and ranching area and has a population of 2,562.
Add some TLC to this charming 3 bedroom, 1 bath handyman special craftsman with cute front porch and it will be a beauty. Built in the mid 40’s, it needs some repairs and updating. But its quality can’t be beat for $49, 500.00. Hardwood floors (painted hardwood in the bedrooms!), tall ceilings and wood moldings make this home must see. Home has a large living area with glass double doors that open into the dining room. There is a quaint hallway that leads to the spacious kitchen and utility room and off the kitchen is a large back porch. Metal roof, large fenced back yard with mature trees and two car carport. Special charm here but needs TLC.
