History

We bought this bus already converted by the previous owners in 2021. We have all the photos, receipts, information & lists of the steps they took during the conversion, what materials they used & installed, expenses, etc. The previous owners also replaced the engine in 2019 with a used/rebuilt engine having approximately 170,000 miles on it. The odometer stopped working around 150,000 miles before the engine was replaced. I believe they purchased the bus in 2016 from a church in the Daytona Florida area where they lived. Prior to that it was a school bus for the Miami- Dade County public school system and they were the original owners. We are the fourth owners and have mostly redecorated, finished a few things in the interior and have had a lot of mechanical work completed including the transmission replacement and numerous other things… we had a renowned local mechanic specializing in heavy duty vehicles, diesel engines, buses & RVs go over the entire engine and all systems with a fine tooth comb and clean/service/repair/replace as needed or suggested… sparing no expense and spending $7,000+ under the hood in 2021-2022.

Please Note

There are a few things to note… Please read! – This is a Florida bus and when converted very little to no insulation was added. The ceilings and walls were not pulled out completely and existing insulation was inspected but not removed or replaced. Ceiling and wall panels were removed (not entirely) and 3 inch fiberglass batt insulation in ceiling looked clean, dry & decent. Walls & ceilings both have 2-3 inch fiberglass insulation which was installed by manufacturer. The floors were removed and replaced properly. Repeat! The bus does not have any added / aftermarket insulation, but it does have some insulation nevertheless. It gets hot in the middle of summer and cold in the winter… We never lived in it full time and use propane heaters when needed and an extra window AC unit. It suits our needs for travel & isn’t terribly hard to heat or cool for the most part! It does have a roof AC unit that is 15,000 BCU, has a heat setting, and works fairly well. We also have screens for all windows & fans! I use reflectix insulation on the windows and all rolls of insulation come with the bus for the new owners, works great! – Being a Florida bus it does not LOVE the cold & it also does not like the wet… she can be fickle sometimes when starting under these conditions. She always starts! Generally I cycle the glow plugs a few times… some days she starts right up & others it takes several tries & a little patience. It has a block heater and we plug it in when it’s cold so it’s easier to start up. – Yes, it has the Allison AT 545 transmission! Which is brand new! It’s not a turd, it’s actually a great & reliable transmission. It’s just not fast & it climbs slowly, but runs beautifully! We’ve driven it locally as well as across & from Florida to VA, Ohio and back, into Maryland, etc. We’ve gone as high as 3,500 ft on interstates & back roads and she’s done great, no problems. Do not expect to go fast! Speeds range from 15mph-35mph climbing hills/mountains & from 50mph-70mph MAX on the wide open road. 55-60 is normal with up to 70 being max when rolling full speed without incline & 45-50 being the overall average on longer trips. Slow and steady wins the race & we embrace and enjoy the ride! We’ve had no issues with overheating and the brakes work great. We were told by the previous owners that it had a governor for speed regulation, but I don’t know for sure whether it does or doesn’t after reaching speeds above 65mph on several occasions.
