This tiny house was originally Frogge’s Gas Station. After use as a gas station, and before being converted as a home, the tiny building was a used car lot office. It was featured in the 1977 movie SuperVan. You can see it as a gas station in the movie on Youtube, starting at 3:15.

In 1960 Frogge’s Gas Station changed its name changed to Frogge Standard Service. Frank Frogge founded this station, Frog Hop Gas at 2708 South Belt Highway in Saint Joseph, and the original Frog Hop Ballroom, a 14,000 sq ft. dance floor decorated in a frog theme. Frogge’s always had gas for less and did a thriving business for many years.

They did a good job with this reversioning — it’s a cute little place. I’d hesitate to buy because there doesn’t seem to be a shower, but it’s darn cute.

I see what looks like a showerhead in the basement, but that doesn’t bother me nearly as much as the fact that it used to be a gas station and was then a used car lot. Even though the seller claims the underground storage tanks were removed, gas stations are notorious for being situated on environmentally contaminated land due to UST leakage, and fluid leaks and other runoff from cars.

This one is a hard pass for me.
