OHU50K NOTES

This former church sits on a corner lot in the small town of Bingham Lake, Minnesota (pop. 126). The town takes its name from the nearby Bingham Lake, a 270-acre body of water known for its good fishing.
Before the conversion, this building was the Bingham Lake First Methodist Episcopal Church. A 1940s photo is below, when the high school sat next door (no longer there), so we know that the realtor’s 1940 build date is incorrect. Per a c.1916 account by genealogytrails.com, the church was organized in 1900 by Reverend G.H. Way. The first church structure was a brick and frame building that cost $1,500. Later, a frame addition was built at a cost of $700.
The First Methodist Episcopal Church of Bingham Lake was organized in 1900 by Rev. G. H. Way, a presiding elder, and the first pastor, Rev. H. H. Wallace. The charter members were J. W. Cogley and wife; G. J. Johnson, Bertha Johnson, N. J. Langley, Susann Cogley, Jessie L. McGladray. The first church building – a brick and frame – cost at first fifteen hundred dollars, and later a frame addition cost seven hundred dollars. In 1916, membership was 63 congregants.
