Pottstown is situated on land originally deeded to William Penn. Germans, English and Swedes were among the area’s first European settlers.

The Potts, a family of iron masters, moved to the area and founded a forge. Thomas Potts purchased 95 acres where the modern Pottstown stands. When the city was first platted, it stretched from York Street to Charlotte Street and from the Schuykill River to Beech Street., so this home was built on one of the very first of Pottstown’s streets.
