7 Rum Hill Rd, Bath, NH, 03740 $79,900 ~ Off Market
Oh, boy! A Federal home for sale in Bath, New Hampshire. Not only is the house an architectural gem, but it is has such a pretty view of a white country church down the street and green hills directly across from the property, plus a wonderful history!
This is the Daniel Patterson House. Daniel Patterson (1809- 1881 ) lived here with his wife Harriet and his children, Dean, Charles and Caroline. In and around 1850 Daniel served as the Grafton County Sheriff. In 1855, despite his description as having “ability, integrity and long experience,” there appears to have been some controversy over his attainment as sheriff, and Daniel was removed.
According to the 1860 US Census, Daniel was a Fire Insurance Agent, and his house was worth $2,500. In a surprising turn of events, in 1880 Daniel was deputy sheriff of Grafton County at the age of 70, a year before his death. He still lived in his home with his wife and single daughter Carrie, who was teaching school in 1870 but at this point was unemployed.
Daniel passed away at the age of 71 and is buried in Bath Village Cemetery.
