Queen Anne Victorian For Sale
If, like me, you have always dreamed of owning a Queen Anne Victorian with a tower and second staircase, this home may pique your interest.
History
This was the beautiful home of Sidney Darin Macdowell (1858-1941). Sidney was born in 1858 in Bradford, N. Y. of Scotch descent parents, Mathew D. MacDowell, a wagonmaker, and Mary D. Darwin, They had five children.
Sidney came to Addison when he was seven years of age, received his education, and in 1887 purchased the MacDowell Furniture and undertaking business with a silent partner. Sidney later became sole proprietor. In 1885, he married Mabel, by whom he had four children: Matthew, Lucy, Sidney and John. The family lived in this house for decades, and it appears John took over the business when his father died at home after a year-long illness. Mr. MacDowell was a member of the Board of Health, was the registry clerk, and also a member of the Masonic fraternity.
The home was valued at $5,000 in 1930.
