Family History

This home has a long history of owners who were prominent Decatur citizens. This originally was the home of Dr. Luther Peck Walbridge (1856-1928) and his wife Laura May Faries Walbridge (1868-1925). Walbridge was a medical doctor who practiced medicine in Saint Louis before building this home in Decatur. In fact, his brother was the mayor of Saint Louis in the early 1900s. The couple had one son.

Later owners included Paul C. Mitchell and his wife Margaret; Robert B. West, president of Tryco Mfg. Co.; and R.V. Lemon, vice president and claims manager of Federal Mutual  Insurance.

REALTOR COMMENTS

Want an updated home with tons of character and space? Here is your chance! This 3 bedroom, 3 full bathroom historical west end home has a completely updated kitchen, main floor bathroom, and original wood floors throughout most of the home. The upstairs features a master suite with his & her closets, a huge laundry room (could easily be converted into a bedroom), and a Jack & Jill bathroom between the two other bedrooms. Love fireplaces? This home has THREE! The third floor hasn’t been used by the owners, but it was originally built as a ballroom! How cool is that? Outside there is a nice patio area and an oversized 2 car detached garage. Don’t miss out on this home! It is truly one of a kind!

Love the layout but the color scheme is horrendous. It makes the photos look dark and the house look dirty.
The detachment garage looks like it’s about to fall down, because nothing was done to make it look like it could be used.
Why isn’t there any landscaping? The yard looks like nothing has been done.
