Family History
Sadly, son William was killed at Iwo Jima in 1945.

“Corporal William Loutzenhiser (SN 461263) joined the Marines from Cleveland, Ohio, not far from his home town of Salem. The year was 1942; he was twenty years old.
Loutzenhiser served through the Marshall Islands, Saipan (where he was wounded on July 8), and Tinian. He landed on Iwo Jima, February 19, 1945.
Corporal Loutzenhiser had earned his stripes and was one of the fast-diminishing number of men who had been with the regiment since its creation in August, 1943. This meant little on Iwo, where the enemy was seemingly everywhere. Able Company lost 9 killed and 13 wounded on February 20, 1945. Among the dead was William Loutzenhiser. He had been shot in the back, possibly by a concealed enemy.” Per Find-A-Grave
