Family History
The Carlton House, known as Buena Vista, was built in 1902 for Walter S. Carlton and his wife, Claudia Harrison Carlton. Walter was a bank teller, then a bookkeeper for a hardware store. The couple also jointly owned a ladies clothing store called the Ladies Bazaar. Walter died in 1936, but Claudia continued to live in the home with her housekeeper well after 1940.
Located on three quarters of an acre in the South Central Aberdeen Historic District, the home has been 80% restored. There are six fireplaces in the home. Central Aberdeen Historic District is comprised of 178 structures dating from 1848 to the 1970s.
