Historic Home For Sale

OHU50K NOTES

This historic home was built in 1908 by George T. Crowell (1855-1909), for whom the town is named. Crowell came to the area with his young family in 1886 and bought up the land which now makes up the town site. In fact, he donated the land on which the Foard County Courthouse sits. Almost all of those people photographed in the c.1908 photo below were members of Crowell’s immediate family. He was a farmer and resided here with his wife Delia, sons Awbrien, George, Robert and Bennie, adopted son Preston Bishop, daughter Mayble, stepson Jessie Hill, and his mother Mary Crowell. While his family continued to live in the house long after Crowell’s death, Crowell himself only lived here a year before passing in 1909.
