OHU50K NOTES

I was really surprised by the home’s location. Take a look at the Google Map street view, and I think you will be, too. Much of the interior character has been sanitized with some crazy finishes, but the wrap-around porch, dining room mantel, and staircase (sadly, painted) still call my name.

Family History

James S. McCoy and Sarah Louise McCoy owned this Colonial Revival from the 1920s when it was a hub of Muskogee’s social scene. James was manager of the Swift Meat Packing Plant for 25 years before retiring in 1944. He didn’t get to enjoy his retirement for very long before passing away in 1947. Sarah and son, Kenneth McCoy, continued to live in the home. In fact after Kenneth, an attorney, married in 1957, he and his wife lived here through the 1990s, and the home continued to be a hub of Muskogee society. That makes at least 70 years that the McCoys enjoyed this home.
