This c.1920 Prairie style home is located in a gorgeous, low-crime neighborhood of Peabody, Kansas. When you view the Google Map, you will see what I mean. Tree-lined streets, some of them brick, filled with one beautiful home after another.

I was smitten with this house as soon as I saw the facade. When I found that the property has a guest house that could be used as a rental, that clenched it. The interior boasts beautiful woodwork, hardwood floors, built-ins, pocket doors and fireplace.

Apparently, Peabody has a pretty nice inventory of brick prairie style homes. OHU50K featured this other beauty, right next door, which is now pending. Both were built by Oilman & Banker in 1920s.

Peabody (pop. 1,210) is the second community in Kansas to have its entire downtown district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The 1880’s Main Street district was listed on the NRHP in 1998.

Named after F.H. Peabody, a Boston native and former vice-president of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, Peabody is well known in the surrounding counties for its all-out July 4th celebration.
