OHU50K NOTES

In the mid 1800s, Ninety Six Cotton Mills was founded to produce textiles for the United States military. Greenwood Mills purchased the plant in 1921, and the first homes to house the employees were constructed in Ninety Six Mill Village in 1925. James C. Self, owner of the mill, took great pride in the construction of the employee housing, building homes that were so much better than most mill housing and attracted the best workers.  Mill operations ended at the Ninety Six plant around the year 2000, but the Mill Village homes still stand proudly.
