Historic Home For Sale on 3 Rural Acres in Dillion SC $85K

OHU50K NOTES

OHU50K featured this home back in November. Subsequently, an offer was put on it, but additional offers were being accepted. Now it is back on the market. This historic home for sale was built in stages and is known as the Woodlawn House aka the Manning/Bethea/Parham House aka Manning House.

Architectural History

This was originally a one-room house built right after the Revolutionary War in 1784/6. The large house was constructed some time after 1823, then expanded into a Greek Revival style in late 1852.  The house was modernized in the early 1950s with the addition.

Family History

The Manning House was owned by the same family for 234 years, until the new owner purchased it in January.

According to Betheafamily.org:

Melea Manning bought the land and built the house in 1790. John Manning and Kessiah Lee became the owner of it. At John’s death in 1843, his son became the owner. Woodward’s daughter, Sarah Anne Manning Bethea, became the heir and then her daughter, Roberta Bethea Parham. Roberta was the mother of W. C. Parham, and he purchased the interest of other heirs. W. C. Parham’s wife is Flora Lou Bethea Parham.

Recent Improvements

Most of the photos are from the 2019 listing. A family currently lives in the home, so it is livable.  They have done work on the home, including removing all of the wallpaper you see in the photos.  All fireplaces work.
