Under $100K Sunday – Circa 1872 Kansas Second Empire Home For Sale $78K
OHU50K Notes $78,000
Sweet circa 1872 Second Empire home for sale with four bedrooms, two baths on a third of an acre. Love the windows and staircase!
The mansard roof was particularly popular during Ulysses S. Grant’s presidency, and was often referred to as the General Grant style. That didn’t go over too big, however, with the southern states. What did go over big with all the states, was a form of tax evasion that the mansard roof offered. Living space within a roof line was not taxed.
Mansard roofs are usually seen on larger homes, as this style roof was considered too heavy for one story homes. This homes appears to carry it well, however.
