Family History
This was the farmhouse of Henry C. Gosling (1844-1916), a native of England, Civil War veteran, and farmer. The family, which consisted of widower Henry and his daughter Luna at this point, lived here soon after 1900 until around the time of Henry’s death in 1916. Wife Lucinda passed away in 1901, and it appears Henry sold the farm and moved into town to this home about that time. Sons John and Ernest lived elsewhere. Henry was elected Clerk of the County Circuit Court, an office his “Femanist” daughter Luna later held from 1923 to 1933.
