Sold – Under $100K Sunday – Circa 1920 Cabin For Sale at Big Bear Lake, CA $100K
OHU50K Notes $85,000 Sold
Get back to the basics in this original, 100-year-old, family-cherished fishing cabin for sale on US Forest Service Land. A great location near the Big Bear Civic Center on a gentle rolling forested site. So quiet and remote. Access through a locked gate to an area of other neighboring cabins near the former Cold Brook Campground; now defunct but offers great hiking.
My daughter’s in-laws owned a house at Big Bear Lake. We were invited one weekend. The road to get there is treacherous, but we had a great time hiking and boating.
Nearby are large granite boulders for climbing and a seasonal stream, offering wonderful views. A local water delivery service fills up the onsite water storage tank. A battery-operated water pump provides pressure from the water tank to the kitchen sink. This 2-room cabin (living/kitchen area and bedroom) features a vintage wood burning stove for heat, a room with RV toilet that drains into a septic system and a basement underneath not included in square footage. Cannot be used for short-term rental; however, it’s a unique opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and get out of the rat race of city life.

I contacted the agent because there’s really not much info. I don’t want to be bombarded with calls, but it says it’s on a 240 acre lot. Surely you can’t buy a 240 acre lot for $85K? Then it mentions nearby cabins, as though you’re sharing that lot, sort of like being in a mobile home park. No water? No electricity? Can you build on it? These are all questions I asked, because I’d love to move to Big Bear. But…

I assumed a bunch of cabins are on 240 acres where each cabin leases land from the forest service.

I checked the zillow lot sq footage and it lists it the same as the sq ft of the house- 240 sq ft. So, yes, some discrepancy. Since you really can’t own forestry land, I assume its really set up on a long term lease?
Would have to look really close at what you can and can’t do with the property, since its forestry service land, its gonna be like dealing with an hoa, but its a realky cool place indeed.
