454 N Locust St, Carlisle, KY 40311 $80,000Reduced to $50,000 Reduced to $49,000Off Market
This for sale by owner Taj Mahal-esque home is currently a duplex, but was originally owned by Claud C. Ratliff (1866-1947), a wholesale grocery merchant. The owner just reduced the price $30,000 on March 1st, to $50,000!
Claud married Elizabeth Carpenter in 1888 or ’89 and began their life together in this home. The childless couple had unique tastes, as you can see by the exterior of the home and the marvelous mantels, and spared no expense on their residence.
According to the US Census, this mini-palace was worth $8,000 in 1930, but had declined in value to $6,000 by 1940.
Elizabeth, aka Lizzie, predeceased Claud in March of 1938. The couple were snowbirds, and also owned a home in Umatilla, Florida, where Lizzie died of pneumonia. Claud accompanied her remains back to their home on Locust Street in Carlisle, where her funeral services were held.
Claud continued to live in the home until his death in 1947 with his favorite niece, his namesake Claudia Tucker.
For sale by owner. Bedrooms and bathrooms are per PVA. I went through the house and came up with this: Downstairs = Kitchen, laundry, bath, 5 other rooms.
Upstairs = Kitchen, 2 bath, 4 other rooms, outside separate entry but can also access upstairs from inside the house.
It does need work, not perfect. But the structure seems to be sound. There is a leak in the roof. Electric and water were all working, but not on now. Gas furnace. Small garage on the side, needs attention also. Being sold where is, how is, as is. 859 473 0999, best for phone don’t really check emails.
