OHU50K NOTES

 Real Estate History

Well, the real estate history of this old house takes the cake.  OHU50K first featured this fixer upper back in March 2020 when it was listed at $14,900. It went off market, was put back on back at $39,900 and then sold in August for $39,000. Now it is back on the market again for $79,900?  Here is the original March post and near the bottom of the page is the August post.  I don’t see any improvements made that would necessitate such a price increase, do you?

Details

Pottsville sits on seven hills, and this c.1860 fixer upper Italianate sits high above Pottsville, PA (pop 15,549), in the Bunker Hill neighborhood. Wow, for someone with deep pockets, this home offers beautiful original elements.I was pleasantly surprised that many of the interior elements are still intact in this oldie but goodie. This one still has its beautiful mantels, pocket doors, original double front doors and gorgeous staircase, but, of course at this price, needs a tremendous amount of work.

Bunker Hill History

Charles II granted the land that was to become the city of Pottsville to William Penn. John Potts, for whom the city is named, purchased an anthracite-fired finery forge there in 1806, and in 1829, D.G. Yuengling & Son founded what is now the oldest operated family beer brewery in the country. The Phillips Van Heusen companywas established in 1881 when Moses Phillips and his wife Endel started sewing shirts by hand and selling them from pushcarts to the local coal miners. Van Heusen left the area in the late 1970s, but the factory building still stands and is now utilized as the headquarters of a storage and vehicle rental business.
