I am not 100% certain, but I believe the building was originally Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church. The cornerstone of the church building was laid on July 6, 1859 and incorporated on the same date. Prior to the construction of the church, services were occasionally held by traveling pastors at various locations.
Bishop Porter visited the church in 1865, but by 1877 the corporation was dissolved, and the presiding reverend had resigned. The last I could find of the church was in 1879 when Rev. McElroy presided over 11 families and 13 communicants.
