This was the home of Theodore de Werd,(b.1894) an immigrant from Holland, who came to Milbank in 1907 with his parents and siblings. At first, Theodore worked as a laborer in a mill, but it was not long after that he purchased a grain elevator. He married in 1922 and lived in this house on South 4th Street in the 1920s to the 1940s with his wife Marguerite Roggunbuck de Werd and children Theodore and Joan, as well as a couple of boarders.
