This home lies just outside the Nevada Downtown Historic Historic. Much of the building boom in Nevada occurred after the disastrous fires in 1880, 1882 and 1887 destroyed much of downtown Nevada. Family History

It appears that in 1930 Mary English, a widow then aged 76, and her never married daughter Olive, aged 52, owned the home. Mary was of Scottish descent, but was born in Canada. She lived in Nevada, Iowa, for decades with her husband, a saddler, on Pine Street, before he passed away sometime between 1910 and 1920. She then purchased the house on 8th Street, which was valued at $5,000 in 1930.
