Family History

In the 1920s and ’30s, this was the home of Harry C. Gardner and Carolyn Castator Gardner. Harry owned his own business manufacturing retail signs, and Carolyn was the daughter of a Civil War veteran. They resided in the home with their daughter, Dorothy, a music teacher, and teenage son, Junior. The Gardners sold the home sometime in the 1930s to Robert Harris, District Attorney of Schuykill County, and his wife Bessie. They lived in the home with their two young sons. Robert was a pilot and owned his own plane for a time before he was called to service in 1942 as a lieutenant junior grade in the US Navy and was stationed in New England.
