512 Second St, Towanda, PA, 18848 $65,000 Off Market
OHU50K NOTES
You may think the roof line of this fixer upper is out of character, and you would be right. According to the National Register of Historic Places, this home, located in the Towanda Historic District, started life as an Italianate with a flat roof. Flat roofs require high maintenance often have leaks, but this roof certainly detracts from the esthetics. You can see where the original brackets were torn off. NRHP also places the build date of this home at around 1860.
History
This was the home of J. Andrew Morrow (1884-1967). Andy, as he affectionately called, loved in this house with his wife Mildred Clara Easterbrook Morrow (1887-1974). They had three daughters, Marian, Dorothea and Kathryn.
Mr. Morrow was a teacher, principal and game warden before he was appointed county superintendent of schools in 1922. He held that position for 32 years, and a primary school, J. Andrew Morrows Elementary, was dedicated in his honor just two months before his death.
