OHU50K NOTES
The listing agent states that this c.1915 move-in ready home was built by Waldo Lyon, the founder of the town, as a wedding gift for his daughter. Founder Waldo Lyon died in 1884, however, so it makes sense that the home was actually built by his son, Waldo H Lyon (1841-1922).
Town History
The Homestead Act was really responsible for the founding of the town of Lyons. Almost all of the early settlers were active in the Civil War. The Lyon family relocated from Wisconsin to what is now known as Lyons in 1866. Waldo senior was able to obtain a parcel of land one mile long and one-fourth mile wide. Here he platted the land, erected a flour mill and incorporated the town in 1884. Waldo Junior ran the family flour mill.
House
This sweet home was given to Waldo Junior’s daughter, Mrs. Edward Sachs, in 1905. It sits on more than a half acre, set back behind mature pine trees in Lyons (pop. 851). The original woodwork is gorgeous, and I love the original kitchen cupboards.
