Family History
It appears that the home was built around 1902-1903 by Edwin Collins Smith, a contractor, soon after his marriage to Mary Norton in 1898. The couple never had children but shared the home with different relatives until they sold it sometime before 1930.
The property changed hands to unknown persons until around 1954 when Wesley (aka Wes) G. Muller and his wife, Barbara Mitchell Muller, purchased the home. After working for the Syracuse Fire Department for 21 years, Wes retired in 1978, and began enjoying the winter months with Barbara in Clearwater, Florida. Wes was described in his 2010 obituary as a man who “made all who knew him feel important and special. He will be remembered by his family and many friends for his warm sense of humor, genuine kindness towards others, and inventive, sincere helpfulness. ” What a great epitaph!
