Family History
Charles P. Nickels (1828-1914) earned his fortune as a general merchant and president of the C.P. Nickels lumber company. The land on which the house stands was deeded to Nickel’s wife, Frances, a member of the Campbell family for whom the street is named. The couple lived in the home with their three children, Helen, Charles and Frank. Actually, the original house was likely built around 1850 but its present form in 1870.
