History
If you look at the Google Map street view, you will see a number of these style homes in the neighborhood. The structures were mill worker homes for the former Abbeville Cotton Mill. Politicians in small towns such as Abbeville competed to build cotton mills as they believed the investment would bring prosperity to the town. To entice workers homes were built for staff. The Abbeville Mill even built a schoolhouse for workers’ children.
The former cotton mill sits directly behind our featured home. It now houses a different business.
