Under $75K Thursday – Historic Fixer Upper in Need of Restoration in Pompey, NY Under $60K

Historical fixer upper home in Pompey Hill! The home has been mostly gutted and in need of complete restoration. A new roof was replaced on the main portion of the home to preserve the structure. Over 200 years old and so much of the original windows, doors, moldings and fireplace are intact! The tax records show 3, 624 SF but part of the back of the structural was taken down, so exact SF is hard to gage. The historical marker is prominently displayed in the front yard and several other historical buildings are located nearby. Listing

History

This is the Horatio Seymour House, the 1811 birthplace of twice Governor of New York State and Democratic Candidate for President against Ulysses S. Grant. Seymour was born in Pompey Hill,to Henry Seymour, a politician and a merchant who opened a successful general store in Pompey, and  Mary Ledyard Forman Seymour, the daughter of General Jonathan Forman. Seymour was one of six children who lived in this house with their parents. His sister Julia Catherine became the wife of Roscoe Conkling, a New York Senator. At the age of 10, Seymour moved from this home with the rest of his family to Utica so his father, Henry, could supervise the middle section of the Erie Canal.
