Family History
From the 1910s to the 1960s, this was the home of Francesco Ragusa and his wife Santa. Francesco and Santa were both Italian immigrants. Francesco worked as a laborer in a factory while Santa took care of their large family which consisted of children, Grace, Tony, Joe, Frank, Sam, Charlie and Amel. Hard to imagine them all living in this small house with one bathroom, but that’s what they did back then. Hey, my family of seven lived in a 750-sf bungalow with one bathroom for five years.
Francesco and Santa, however, even had grandchildren living with them in the 1950s. Their grandson, Frank Lagusa (son of Tony), was living with them when he came down with polio in 1952. Fortunately, he fully recovered and was in the US Air Force by 1956.
