OHU50K NOTES
Save this old house. The submission was sent in by a reader who states that the for sale by owner home was built in 1870. The brick beauty is an Italianate that needs a complete restoration but offers views of the Mississippi, incredible corbels at windows and eaves, pivoting star windows at gables and a 1,500 sq ft attic. Hardwood floors, stunning fireplace mantel and molding grace the interior. Fabulous home waiting to be restored!
Family History
This is the former home of the Schultz Family, local furniture sellers. Per the 1880 US Census, Henry Schultz, an immigrant from Prussia, owned the home with his German bride Kate. Henry started up his furniture shop in Hannibal in the 1870s. The couple shared this home with their children Ida, Henry, Edward, Clara and Lillie. By the 1900 US Census, Henry and Kate had passed, daughter Clara had married WD Horenburg, and they lived here with Clara’s two brothers, Henry and Edward, who were furniture sellers at Hannibal Furniture Company. Clara’s sister Lillie also lived in the home and worked as a bookkeeper for the shop.
