OHU50K NOTES

Wonderful home! As you can see by the vintage photo below, the house lost its witch hat tower roof somewhere along the line, but it is still beautiful.

Family History

Known as the Gentle House, this home was owned in the early 1900s by John T. Gentle (1860-1938) and his wife May Belle Johnson Gentle (1865-1969). J.T. owned his own drug store, and in his later years was a door-to-door salesman for a leather company. After J.T. passed away, Maybelle continued to live in the home with her adult granddaughter, Maryellen Gentle. May Belle was a descendant of Captain Maske Leake who served in the Revolutionary War. She lived to be 104 years old.
