It was the also the county’s first incorporated town (1787). Today, few remnants of this thriving town still stand. The county’s Civil War heritage was recently honored with a monument in the small park along the banks of Middle Creek. The ghost village is one of 10 historic sites on the Hyde County Talking Houses and Historic Places driving tour. It is only one hour from Nags Head’s ocean beaches, but of course, flooding is an issue.
