Pros

• Very quiet and small-town. If you want peace, low traffic, and a close-knit community, Barneveld fits the bill.
• Good access to Utica and the Mohawk Valley. You aren’t isolated in the same way you would be in a remote rural community. Niche gives Barneveld an A- for commute.
• Affordable compared with much of New York. Current listings show a median asking price around $209,000, while Zillow’s average home value is about $308,000. The small number of properties available makes the numbers somewhat volatile, though.
• Good schools for the area. Barneveld is served by the Holland Patent school system, and Holland Patent Central High School currently receives an 8/10 GreatSchools rating on Realtor.com. Niche gives Barneveld’s public schools a B- overall.
• Strong family environment. Niche gives the community an A- for families, which is one of the better ratings among the inexpensive towns you’ve asked about.

• Extremely small. With only about 240 residents, don’t expect much in the way of shopping, entertainment, nightlife, or services within the village itself.
