Sold – Circa 1900 Affordable Home – Victorian-Era Cottage in Chanute, KS $55K
OHU50K Notes $55,000 Sold
The realtor’s 1920 build date is off by at least 20 years. The original owners, the Connell family, would be happy to see the wrap-around is still standing, and the gable still shows off its imbricated shingles. They might be dismayed, however, not to find most of the interior that they spent over 20 years enjoying life in.

Family History
The home was built for A.B. Connell and his wife Ida. The couple had at least three daughters, Haidee, Georgia and Bessie who wrote letters to Santa every year that were printed in the Chanute Daily Tribune. Ida was big into needlework and often entertained members of the Priscilla Needlework Club and their husbands on the lawn of this house.. A.B. was a mail carrier in Chanute’s business district, and in 1918, he led the sale of War Savings Stamps. He was also very involved in Chanute school district affairs.
