History

Christ Church was established in 1830 and officially incorporated on July 6, 1846. The original church building was completed in 1833, with a congregation of approximately 40 members. The church remained active until the 1960s, at which point services became infrequent and were dependent on the availability of a priest. It wasn’t until July 4, 1976—during the nation’s Bicentennial—that Father Dan Herzog, who would later become Bishop Dan, led the first of what would become regular worship services and eventually took on the role of rector of the parish.
