Family History

Can you believe the realtor put the build date for this gem as 1954? It was more likely built soon after the turn of the century. In fact, Miss Mayme Kornrumpf and Bertram E. Butler were married in this home in 1917. It was the home of the bride’s sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Dean C. Holmes. Dean and his wife Nellie purchased the home about 1905 free and clear with no mortgage. Dean Crawford Holmes (1872-1936) was a railroad commissioner from the Southern district of Mississippi as well as a one-time secretary-manager of the McComb Chamber of Commerce.
Dean Holmes
Dean and Nellie were married in 1898 and lived in the home with their three children Dean, Nellie Kay and Zita as well as several other relatives including Mayme who they raised as a child after her and Nellie’s mother died in 1906.
