The Pros

  • Ultra-Low Crime & High Safety: Because of its isolated nature and tiny population, crime rates in Edgerton are virtually nonexistent compared to state and national averages. Neighbors generally know one another, making it feel very safe.

  • Proximity to Open Spaces and Outdoors: Surrounded by classic Wyoming landscape, it’s a haven for anyone who loves wide-open spaces, big skies, quiet surroundings, and a rural lifestyle.

  • Tight-Kit Micro-Community: Edgerton shares close geographic, social, and municipal ties with its neighboring town, Midwest (just two miles away). They share school systems and community resources, creating a supportive, old-school small-town atmosphere.

  • No Traffic or Urban Stress: If you want to escape city congestion, noise, and traffic, Edgerton offers absolute peace and quiet.

The Cons

  • Extremely Limited Amenities & Shopping: Edgerton has very few commercial businesses within town limits. For major grocery shopping, medical centers, entertainment, or dining out, residents must make the roughly 40-mile drive south to Casper.

  • Economic and Job Constraints: The local economy has historically depended heavily on the boom-and-bust cycles of the oil and gas industry. Diversified local employment opportunities are sparse, and median household incomes trend lower.

  • Isolation and Harsh Weather: Winters in central Wyoming can be brutal, featuring heavy snow, bitter cold winds, and icy roads. Because Edgerton is somewhat isolated, severe weather can make travel back and forth to Casper challenging.

  • Aging Infrastructure & Services: Like many small historic oil towns, local municipal resources, housing stock options, and public services are limited.
