Family History
“Wife of Seth H. Piper
Elk City Sun, Fri., Apr. 20, 1909
Mrs. S. H. Piper,
Early last Saturday morning there passed into eternity, the soul of Mrs. S. H. Piper at her home in Independence. Death was not unexpected as she had been a sufferer from tuberculosis for several years, and although all was done that skill and loving hands could do, the end came in its awful certainty. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Woodring of this city.
Claudine Woodring was born in Elk County, near Longton, Sept 2, 1874. A year later her parents moved near Elk City, where she grew to womanhood, and was married May 3, 1893, to S. H. Piper. To this union were born three children; Alpha, age 14, Genevieve, age 9 and Elizabeth age 4 years. They moved to Independence about 8 years ago, where they have since resided. A trip to New Mexico a year ago was of no benefit to her health. The remains were brought to this city Sunday and funeral services held at her parent’s home Monday morning at 9:30 o’clock, Rev. J. W. Farrell of Independence being in charge. Mr. Farrel! also officiated at the baptism and marriage of Mrs. Piper. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery, and the grave was covered with flowers sent by loving friends and the Montgomery County Bar Association, of which Mr. Piper is a member. A committee of the Association also attended the funeral as did several out-of-town relatives.
Mrs. Piper is survived by her husband and three children, her parents, brother Harry, and sisters, Lida, Mrs. J. J. Carroll, and Mrs. A.B. Shaffer. She was a woman of fine character, loving and indulgent disposition, beloved by all who knew her and an ideal Christian. Her life, ended in its prime, remains an example of perfect womanhood. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community.”
