Family History

This was the home of Malcolm R. McKinley (1889-1967) and his wife Edith Meyers McKinley (1901-1992). Malcolm, who went by Abe, was a warehouseman for Standard Oil.  The couple had no children, but lived a very affluent life style for a head of a family with only an 8th grade education. In 1954, Abe was presented by his employer with a gift of paid vacations for the rest of his life. This didn’t mean simply his paid salary. This meant, Standard Oil would actually pay for the vacation. And the McKinleys certainly took advantage of this gift. They went to Ireland, England, Norway, the Mediterranean, and South Africa among other places.  Man, nowadays we don’t even get a free Thanksgiving turkey from our employers anymore.
