c.1854 Missouri Fixer Upper Italianate Under $45K
OHU50K Notes $44,950
This poor, poor Missouri fixer upper Italianate. The interior still retains many of its original elements, but there is a reason why the realtor did not include a photo of the exterior of this four-bedroom, one-bath home. It is jaw dropping, and not in a good way, what previous owners did to the exterior of this once beautiful brick Italianate. At least there is a photo of it in its prime should someone have the means to bring it back to life.

Realtor Comments
It is located in the Central Historic District on a prominent corner. Many of the home’s original features are still apparent-period woodwork, grand staircase, high ceilings, well-proportioned rooms, oak hardwood floors, a stunning fireplace, and 4 intact chimneys. The house has a newer roof and some recent and electric and mechanical, though all of the systems will need updating. As evidenced by the turn of the last century photography, the house had a stunning carpenter gothic porch, rooftop widows walk, and shutters at each window and the grounds had a quaint low fence. All of which could be restored to make this, once again, an exquisite property!

Family History
This brick Italianate house was built in the 1850’s by Hannibal mayor (1874) and dry goods store owner, Thomas K. Collins (1822-1885). Thomas was born in Maryland in 1822 and moved to Hannibal in 1840 at the age of 18. There, he married his wife Lydia (1824-1885). Did they place lapsidiing over this brick home? I do not see brick anywhere on this house at all. In the advertizement it says all 4 chimneys are intact as well…I only see 1 chimney?

Whoa Nellie! I checked on Google Earth what it looks like today and can’t believe a diamond gem like this could be turned back to a lump of coal. Maybe there’s hope for the right person to come to its rescue.

The put siding over the brick. I see the four chimneys, but some of them are a lot shorter.
