Family History
The Quincy Daily Herald, Tuesday, May 19, 1891; page 3.
“Death of William Cramer.
William Cramer, aged 68 years, died at 10:30 on Sunday forenoon of brain fever after a week’s illness.
Born in 1823, Mr. Creamer came here in 1848. After residing in Dayton and Cincinnati for eight years, he came to this city, when he became employed in the old Jasper disstillery as distiller.
In 1860 he and Ludwig Fries purchased the distillery, which they operated successfully until 1867, when Mr. Fries died.
Mr. J. H. Brockschmidt purchased the latter’s interest, and became Mr. Cramer’s partner. Through misfortunes, the firm was compelled to discontinue their business in 1874.
His first wife, who was Miss Christine Stern, died in 1864, and left the following children: Anna Cramer, Mrs. Hiram Leipold, Mrs. Dan Campbell, and John Cramer.
In 1864 he married Miss Emelia Knosman, who preceded her husband in death two months ago. The children from his last marriage are: Emma, Henry, and Antonette Gruber of Brookfield Missouri; Augusta, Theresia, Minnie, and Willie Cramer.
Mr. Cramer was one of Quincy’s oldest and most respected citizens, one who will be mourned by many.”
