Frances Jones Vinton donated three churches,  in fact. She had been inspired by the Biblical passage “Thy praise shall ring from shore to shore,” to build a church in the east, west, and in middle of the US. The church in Providence, Rhode Island, closed in 1950 and was razed, and the church in San Gabriel, California, was significantly altered.

Location of This Historic Iowa Church For Sale

Clermont, Iowa, is a small, picturesque town located in northeastern Iowa, in Fayette County. Nestled along the banks of the Turkey River, Clermont is known for its historical significance, charming architecture, and rural surroundings. With a population of fewer than 1,000 people, it offers a peaceful, small-town lifestyle.

Pros of Living in Clermont, IA:

  1. Historic Charm: Clermont is known for its well-preserved historical buildings, including the Montauk Historic Governor’s Mansion, which was home to Iowa’s 12th governor, William Larrabee. The town’s history and architecture give it a unique, old-world charm.
  2. Scenic Surroundings: The town is situated along the Turkey River and surrounded by rolling hills and farmland. Its natural beauty makes it a great place for outdoor activities like fishing, kayaking, hiking, and camping.
  3. Tight-Knit Community: With a small population, Clermont offers a close-knit, supportive community where residents often know each other. This fosters a sense of belonging and connection.
  4. Low Cost of Living: Like many rural areas in Iowa, Clermont has a relatively low cost of living, making it an affordable place for families, retirees, or anyone looking for a quiet lifestyle without high expenses.
  5. Low Crime Rate: Clermont has a low crime rate, contributing to its reputation as a safe place to live and raise a family.

Cons of Living in Clermont, IA:

  1. Limited Job Opportunities: Being a small rural town, Clermont has limited job opportunities. Most employment options are in agriculture, small businesses, or local services. Residents may need to commute to nearby towns like West Union or Oelwein for work.
  2. Limited Amenities and Services: Clermont lacks the amenities of larger cities, such as shopping centers, restaurants, entertainment venues, and specialized healthcare. Residents often need to travel for these conveniences.
  3. Small Population: While the small population can foster community ties, it can also limit social and recreational opportunities, especially for younger residents. The town may not offer as many events, activities, or cultural experiences as a larger city.
  4. Harsh Winters: Like much of Iowa, Clermont experiences cold, snowy winters. This can make travel difficult and require residents to be prepared for extended periods of cold weather.
  5. Distance from Major Cities: Clermont is somewhat remote, and larger cities like Cedar Rapids and Waterloo are over an hour’s drive away. This isolation may be inconvenient for those who want more frequent access to urban amenities or work opportunities.

Summary:

Clermont, Iowa, offers a peaceful, historically rich, and affordable lifestyle in a scenic rural setting, making it a great place for those who value community, history, and outdoor activities. However, the town’s small size and remote location can limit job opportunities, amenities, and social experiences, which might be challenging for people seeking a more active or connected lifestyle.
