Pros:
- Scenic Beauty:

- Small-Town, Close-Knit Community:
- The village has a tight-knit community feel, where neighbors often know one another and come together for local events and activities. This fosters a strong sense of belonging and support.
- Proximity to Brattleboro:
- West Brattleboro is just a few minutes from downtown Brattleboro, offering access to more amenities, shops, dining, and cultural events without being in the midst of the busier town center.
- Cultural and Artistic Scene:
- Brattleboro has a vibrant arts and cultural scene, with galleries, music venues, and theaters nearby. The region is known for its support of the arts, making it a great place for creative individuals.
- Outdoor Recreation:
- The area around West Brattleboro is rich in outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, skiing, and water sports. State parks, nature reserves, and trails are easily accessible, offering year-round recreational opportunities.
- Good Quality of Life:
- Vermont in general is known for a high quality of life, with clean air, low pollution, and a focus on sustainable living. West Brattleboro is no exception, offering a calm and healthy environment.
- Safety and Low Crime:
- West Brattleboro, like much of Vermont, has a low crime rate, contributing to a safe and secure environment for residents, which is especially appealing for families and retirees.
Cons:
- Limited Job Opportunities:
- Employment options in West Brattleboro itself are limited, with most people commuting to Brattleboro or other nearby towns. The job market in the region leans toward education, healthcare, and service industries, which may not suit everyone.
- Higher Cost of Living:
- While not as expensive as some areas of Vermont, the cost of living in West Brattleboro can be higher than the national average, especially when it comes to housing, utilities, and property taxes.
- Harsh Winters:
- Vermont winters can be long and harsh, with significant snowfall and cold temperatures. Residents must be prepared for winter weather, which can be challenging in terms of both travel and heating costs.
- Limited Amenities and Services:
- While the proximity to Brattleboro helps, West Brattleboro itself is a small village with fewer stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. For more extensive amenities, residents need to travel to larger towns or cities.
- Rural Isolation:
- For those accustomed to a more urban lifestyle, the rural nature of West Brattleboro may feel isolating. Public transportation is limited, and many services are not as immediately accessible as in more densely populated areas.
- Aging Infrastructure:
- Some parts of West Brattleboro may have aging infrastructure, including older homes that might require maintenance and upgrades. Additionally, rural roads can be more challenging during winter months.
- Tourist Activity:
- While not as heavily trafficked as other parts of Vermont, Brattleboro and its surroundings do attract tourists, especially during the fall foliage season and in the summer. This can result in occasional crowds or traffic.
Conclusion:
West Brattleboro offers a peaceful, rural lifestyle with beautiful scenery, a strong community, and access to cultural amenities in nearby Brattleboro. It’s an excellent choice for nature lovers, retirees, and those seeking a quieter life. However, the limited job market, high cost of living, and harsh winters are potential downsides for some. The village strikes a balance between rural charm and accessibility to nearby conveniences, appealing to those who appreciate a slower pace of life with access to outdoor and cultural activities.

I was excited to see this, exterior is so interesting, but what a disappointment:( It’s about 100k too much. Hope someone buys it and brings it back to life.

I agree it should be a lot less , most of VT banks on out of staters that think this is a bargain , we lived in far Northeastern VT last and all around VT for over 20 years before moving back to PA . It’s becoming a state of part time residents (they usually pay less in property taxes) while the permanent residents get stuck paying higher for everything (they usually pay a lot more in property taxes).
