I think I’m seeing the servants’ staircase, from the kitchen? Its so steep and the treads are so narrow. The history of stairs interests me, how the stairs used by the family was designed for safety but the back staircase usually was not built with safety in mind. In Victorian times, death by falling down the stairs was common. I think of those poor servants taking the stairs while carrying trays and whatnot.
