Save This Old c.1880 Alabama Fixer Upper Queen Anne Victorian $45K
OHU50K Notes $45,000
This poor Alabama fixer upper needs a savior. The c.1880 Queen Anne Victorian was once a beauty on this tree-lined street of gorgeous older homes. The Hooper family enjoyed sitting on the wrap-around feeling the cooler evening air, and entertaining guests in their wonderful home filled with amazing woodwork.
The 1880 Hooper House has seen many lives, but after a fire, its story may have come to a sad end.

Family History
Hooper
This was the home of James Fullerton Hooper, Sr. (1862-1942), a sugar broker, and his wife Eleanor Gary Hooper (1864-1938). The couple married in 1889 and, as the oldest son, may have inherited the home from his father, the Reverend Thomas Hooper. Not sure about that. In any event, James and Eleanor lived in the home with their children, Tom and James Jr. Later the boy’s wives and children became part of the household. Sadly, in 1924, James Jr. died of a lingering illness at the young age of 31. His funeral was held at the home. He left behind a wife and two young children, Maddie and James.
By the 1940s, James Junior’s widow, Kathleen, opened up an antique shop in part of the home known as Kathleen’s Antique Shop. By 1960, hoever, she changed the store to Kathleen’s Town and Country Dress Shop.
